Go Red for Women My Life Makeover

On December 9th, 2010, I started a new journey - a journey designed to help me and other women make heart healthy changes to their life.  I will be working with Dr. Joan Crawford and the wonderful team that has been assembled from St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital and the American Heart Association Staff (Southfield, Michigan) to learn all I can about heart disease and what I can do to reduce my risk of developing heart-related problems or at least the severity of problems.  Dr. Crawford has encouraged the participants to journal.  I have started writing down my food intake and my physical activities.  Hopefully, writing these things down will make me more conscious of my choices - the good and the bad.

  1. Last week, I attended a Zumba class - sort of by accident. I dragged myself to my Girl Scout Leaders' meeting and at the end of the class, we are invited to stay over for a Zumba class. Many of the leaders, left at the conclusion of our structured meeting. I wanted to see Zumba in action, but didn't bring my exercise gear with me. I had a bag in my car with water, a towel and a healthy snack (in case my blood sugar dropped); however, I did not have my sneakers. Fortunately, I had on some boots (without heels) and rubber soles that made it possible for me to try out the moves. I have to say, I enjoyed the class. I think I will try to sign up for Zumba to go with my line dancing classes.
